Partners & departments
The Charles M. Son Gewertz Building is the first historic building of the Department of Electrical Engineering. Together with two adjacent buildings—the Faculty Club Building and the Electrical Circuit Design Building—it has served the department for many decades. Over time, all three buildings gradually deteriorated due to age.
To preserve this valuable heritage, the Department of Electrical Engineering undertook a comprehensive renovation of the three buildings. The project was guided by the concept of preserving the Charles M. Son Gewertz Building in its best possible condition, reflecting the department's history and foundation, while transforming the two adjoining buildings into modern facilities. The surrounding landscape was also redesigned with aim at representing a vision of future living.
The renovated complex has been established as an Integrated Reseachr and Innovation Center for Smart Living Solutions, collectively known as Gewertz Square. It serves as a demonstration and learning space for advanced technologies, as well as a platform for integrating research and development outcomes from the Department of Electrical Engineering and the Faculty of Engineering into innovative solutions.
In addition, Gewertz Square provides a collaborative space where students can develop creative projects alongside faculty members, alumni, and industry partners. It also serves as a venue for showcasing innovations and welcoming visitors. All these activities foster collaboration and partnerships that contribute to a sustainable future.
GEWERTZ Square is part of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, Chulalongkorn University.
